ISO 9001:2015 – Will There Be A Revision In 2022?
It will be somewhat of relief to the over 1 million* certified organizations across the globe, that the ISO 9001:2015 standard will not undergo a revision any time soon.
Members of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Technical Committee 176, Sub-Committee 2 (TC176/SC2) have agreed that the ISO 9001:2015 will remain unchanged, at least for the near future.
The ISO 9001 standard is reviewed and revised by the committee and subsequently modified every seven years. This has been the case since the initial version of the ISO 9000 standard was released in 1987.
When standards are modified, organizations are required to implement new and modified requirements. Companies are typically given a two-year period in which to make those changes within their organizations.
Subsequently, these changes are then reviewed by the Industry Specific organizations adding industry specific changes resulting in a revision of that derivative.
The last 17 months have been incredibly challenging for most businesses.
The news that the ISO 9000 standard will remain the same, will lessen the financial burden of companies that need to spend resources to accommodate these changes.
It will still remain important for organizations to incorporate changes in their processes into their QMS documentation, conduct regular internal audits and management review meetings.
